Just recently the Department of Justice seized thousands of counterfeit devices from over 28 companies selling counterfeit Cisco equipment that is nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. These not only have pirated or fake copies of the IOS on them, but also may include backdoors and other major security concerns. It has happened again on a major scale! Just recently, 8/2023, three more men have admitted to trafficking counterfeit Cisco equipment. As you can see, this is a wide spread issues that continues to be a problem in the networking world. According to U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger, “Although the defendants advertised the Cisco products they offered for sale as new and genuine, the products were counterfeit devices they procured from various overseas suppliers at well below market prices and resold at higher prices”.
